Fix Copy/Paste Limitation between Projects and Families ASAP

Fix Copy/Paste Limitation between Projects and Families ASAP

Autodesk needs to fix the errant limitation on copying and pasting sketch lines, Model Lines, etc. across family types and across projects and families. It is extremely annoying and has no mathematical basis for existing: These entities have a relative xyz coordinate space and so does every other template and project space. It's an imaginary limitation that makes Revit look dumb - which it is in this case. Unless, Autodesk comes to rescue and fixes this glitch. Thanks.

As a suite, Also between Families and Mass Families....

Copying and pasting between the 3 templates is a crucial rather than repeating the modelling procedure and loosing effort if required to transfer from 1 template to another.....

Lines can be copied in sketch mode (pink lines), in the destination file start a filled region, paste the linework, select the lines, copy the lines, finish the filled region, paste the lines, delete the filled region. Sketch mode seems to work like a DMZ, it doesn't care where things come from and things copied from it can be pasted elsewhere.

Of course this simply proves your point about no basis for the limitation - this error is right up there with 'line too short' when moving an object 0.5mm.

Michael, your suggestion was great, but.. :*(

"Revit has generated a fatal error"...

At least Revit was kind enough to first save recovery files for each open project.

@Anonymous sorry to hear that. ☹

@MichaelWarwick7522, no, no, not your fault!  Sorry, my comment was a little terse.

Pasting into sketch mode is a good trick to have in one's back pocket.  The fatal error I encountered may have been caused by trying to get a through-points nurbs curve into a family type which doesn't support them 😞

Hi All, Cane anyone help me with what is probably a very quick fix?

My office has a legend created with lists spec notes for roof, walls, ect. However when I try to copy the text from these text box's and paste them into items "type mark" it wont let me, but it will allow me to copy in text from outside revit?? why is this happening?

This has been a major annoyance for me for the past 10 years and would save so much time if it is fixed.

In the meantime I find measuring geometry in the project, writing down a table of coordinates on paper and then typing it back in to the family so that things line up between the two.  This seems like something a computer would be really good at...

Still lacking this functionality...

Edit:

Per usual, I had to find a workaround to this unnecessary limitation:

1. Copy your text into a Drafting View

2. Export the Drafting View as a DWG

3. Import CAD into an .rfa ( setting the colors to black and white did not work for me unfortunately)

4. Scale if necessary, most likely by .0833 to convert from feet to inches

5. Partially explode the CAD file

6. Reassign Text Note Types because when you explode the text Revit creates new Text Note Types

Autodesk, can we have an update on when this limitation will be fixed please?  It is a real impediment to our workflow.  The weird work-around posted above by ahmears actually magically somehow works (thank you!), so there is clearly no technical limitation.
