Custom System Familes

Custom System Familes

The ability to edit system families would be massive.

For example: The Cable Tray System Family has an incomplete Wire Tray (just a solid U shape for all pieces). Revit will allow you to edit all aspects of this (T's, Cross, Bends, Reducers, etc) via a dropdown box where you can select which tray you wish to populate for that particular piece. It gives you these options for all the connections except the straight run (which leads to it just populating straight runs with the Standard Wire Tray found within revit which doesnt represent a wire tray at all). Adding a drop down box for the straight runs in the system family would make it fully customizable and should be an easy addition to the existing software. This would allow companies like myself to use our own desired families to create easy systems.

Not just cable trays obviously - a generic customizable system family that can pull properties and variables from all other families is essential to avoid another 15 years of kludges.

Yes exactly Jerome. I was just referencing the System family for Cable Trays as it is what I deal with weekly. But ofcourse, this should be applied to all system families. I agree that having a generic family for it is probably the best way, this way atleast we have "a" system family that we can edit and manipulate, while also keeping autodesk happy by keeping their pre-loaded trays (or other system families) untouched.

Would be a MASSIVE feature if they added this function to all system families. Would speed up workflow indefinitely and also make the program alot more functional to use (rather than me placing pieces individually to get my desired system).

Until now no update or improvement on Revit 2018 regarding this issue. =(

No update from Autodesk on this issue either which is quite troublesome. Seems as though its something everyone could benefit from, not sure why Autodesk is making us streamline our standards to their low standards (their box vs our actual cable tray for our instance - which currently needs to be placed piece by piece as I cannot turn it into a systems family and just draw the lines like you can with a system family).

Really hoping to see at least a response from Autodesk on the issue, which would outline why they chose to go this route instead of allowing them to be customized

Real basket tray is required here... kind of shocked Autodesk hasn't solved this for us yet.

Tell me about it, doesnt even seem like a MASSIVE overhaul is needed. Just simply adding a proper family to the system, OR alternatively giving us a way to edit ALL components of a system. Find a frustrating they allow you to edit all parts except for the straight run basket tray.

Please Autodesk, add this in already!

I wonder if there is any progress about this problem, how could we model Busbars?

Thanks
