How to work offline using Desktop connector?

I have a 2018.2 C4R project and Desktop Connector installed.

It's my understanding that if a file has recently been edited, I can work on it offline. Let's say my laptop doesn't have any internet connection - Am I supposed to be able to launch the Revit file from the local BIM 360 Team folder & it will sync back to BIM 360 when internet is restored? I'm not seeing that capability...

I did read that Desktop connector doesn't support Central files & that's basically all of my C4R projects. Does this mean those files won't be available for offline?

What's the supported workflow for working offline?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi Denis,

Good to chat with you again.

Desktop Connector (DC) is not intended to be used for central/C4R models. Your C4R models don't appear in Desktop Connector. You will see the published version of your models (the same as you see in BIM 360), but these files do not have a link back to the original C4R model.

The way you can really utilize DC to improve your workflows if if you have non-workshared RVTs or DWGs that you need to link into your C4R host model. DC helps you get those links into a cloud-based location (BIM 360 Team) and then all users in your C4R host model can have access to them as long as they have DC installed. No mapped drives, etc required.

As long as those linked files have been opened from DC in the last 72 hours, then you should be able to open them offline. However, this does not apply to your C4R models.

Thanks,

Sasha

Hi Sasha,
Thanks for the quick feedback - it's good hearing from you!
Your explanation clears things up & although we don't get local C4R capability, I'm really happy to be able to host DWG and other files on BIM 360. It's not hard to image the day when all of our project folders and files will be there.
Thanks!
Dennis
