How to save a local copy without upgrading the shared central model

Hi all,

I am energy modeller and quite new to Revit and collaborative working. I am working on a project and have given access to the Revit model through BIM 360. I downloaded the Revit model to my local computer. I am using Revit 2022 to open the file but the entire project team are working on Revit 2020. How do I open and save a local copy without updating the central model to 2022?

Thank you,

Aniruth

Hi Aniruth

When you open the downloaded Revit model, you are opening a local copy of the cloud model(in nutshell, it is a local model), which is no longer compatible/connecting with the Revit2020 central model.  It means that you can't save your changes back to the central model.

If you would like to do Revit cloud worksharing, you have to use Revit 2020.

Hope this helps.

Option 1 will be the current file path as the central model path. If the current path is not desired, you can go with Option 2. You should be able to use Save as command to save it to the desired path.

Hi Jade,

Sorry to ask but I am having this message when I am opening the model. Is this normal? Thanks again

yes, it is per expected.

The model you downloaded from BIM 360 Docs is 2020 version. When you open an earlier version, Revit will upgrade it to current versions.

@jade.l, I have a shared revit (2018) file from a workshared project that was emailed to me. I don't want to mess up their copy by opening it and upgrading. I made a copy of it using etransmit (I didn't do the upgrade in the process as I am only using 2022). When I open the new file I get the same warning as above, that the new etransmitted version is workshared, and upgrading it to 2022 will affect others. Is that true or a generic warning? How do I get my own local copy of this 2018 file that isn't workshared without upgrading the original to 2022...

Thanks!
