Autodesk Desktop Connector - Fail to open document

Hello, when trying to open a Revit file using Autodesk Desktop Connector (ADC), you might encounter the error message: "Failed to open document." This issue is especially common when opening detached files for work shared Revit models hosted on Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).

The error is caused because Autodesk Desktop Connector downloads a .zip file instead of the actual Revit file. Autodesk response is that this happens when not all linked files of the workshare Revit model have their latest versions published in ACC. As a result, the system cannot correctly process or access the required files.

Autodesk has confirmed that the root of the issue lies in the fact that when linked files are not published in their latest versions, ADC defaults to downloading incomplete or compressed data (e.g., .zip files), which Revit cannot interpret as valid input.

The post you are replying to states "the root of the issue lies in the fact that when linked files are not published in their latest versions". If after publishing the latest versions, you are still having a problem, I would suggest opening a new thread.

We have the same problem. We dont use ACC ourselfs, we get read access through one of the companies designing the project. I just want to download a RVT file for local use, how hard can that be. I've never had software change the extention of a downloaded file, that is absolutely horible behavior.
