Y/n parameter for materials.

We have residential clients generally came in with either young, conservative or classic taste.

We have to change our furniture style and materials accordingly...And it takes lots of time because the material dialog window tab in RV takes longer time in loading/reloading materials.

Given such, we actually only have 3 choices to pick, as said.

I wonder how can we make all furniture, bed, etc. with y/n parameter for preset materials instead of having 3 sets of every family as now.

Hypothetically, we can select all furnitures, and with just one click, change them all to either young, conservative or classic theme.

Will it possible, and how ?

Thanks.

I am not certain if you can control individual material assignments by the value of a global parameter.  You should be able to set up a "container" family for each furniture type that has three nested families whose visibility is controlled by the value of a global parameter.  So if the global furniture type parameter was set to "Young" - then the "Young" nested furniture family would be visible, and the other two would not be visible.  A setting of "Conservative" would display the conservative nested family and a setting of "Classic" would display the classic nested family.

I have not tried that out, but it should work, if you are willing to go the effort to set up the container families.

Create blank templates with same material names but different material definitions. When you need to switch the material theme,  transfer projects standards and choose only material category to be transferred.

It works.

But the Transfer project material step took nearly 30 minutes.

Perhaps I missteped ?

Because Revit needs to update everything with the new materials so it can take time.  You could try to close all all model worksets, transfer project standards, and re-open the worksets.

We are small office, no work set actually happens. Hence no work set existed.

Perhaps you meant set furnitures (testing subject) to one workset, and only transfer that part ?

Another thought, I tried to delete the default materials in the template, just leave the one in question, but it seems to upset RV, causing it to crash.
