work Remote with revit and takes too long to open and synchronize

Hi there,

Hi there,

I'm starting to work remotely from Spain and the real office is located in Basel (Switzerland). When I'm in the office in Basel it takes around  3-5 minutes to open the revit file which is 250mb and a few seconds to just synchronize. When I'm in Spain it takes 45 minutes to open the file and between 20 to 40 minutes to synchronize when many changes have been done in the model. I have 600mb of symetric fiber in Spain. I have acces to the revit server from Basel when I'm in Spain and I can browse through the same folders because of the VPN connection. Besides the file I'm working at is stored in the Revit server via accelerator.

I don't know where is the issue and the best way to open and synchronize with the revit file as quick as posible.

I'd appreciate if someone could help.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

I am not an IT expert here but it might not be your end were the issue is. It could be at the office you are VPN to.

  1. How often are you creating a new local copy of your model? Doing this regularly can help with the fill.
  2. Are you working with Worksets? Have you tried selecting the worksets you wish to work on?
  3. Can the model or models be split into separate models to help with model management?

One solution which can help you here is to look at using BIM 360 Collaboration and BIM 360 Docs. You can store your models in the cloud and access them from anywhere. This will most certainly help if your working remotely from the office or job site. Connect your local re-seller for more information.

Hi @Anonymous

I have seen this many times when a file is linked into the Revit Model, from the local Server, not Revit Server.

Get someone in the Basel Office to Audit the location of all linked files, to ensure they are all linking from Revit Server.

If you don't have WAN optimization (additional hardware/software) in place AND Revit Server deployed then what you describe normal performance.
