Hello!
I just graduated from architecture school so please bare with me as I only have a few years of Revit under my belt. I am having trouble with cutting into wood stud components. I have recreated the studs through a structural column, architectural column, casework, generic model components and tried the cut function but nothing seems to cut out the window. Is there a way to achieve this? I am wanting to do a lumber take off too, so the framing needs to be as accurate as possible. The 4 studs bunched together are different types of components that I mentioned.

You can use a void to cut with or the split tool ...depending on the element you want to cut
An easier and more common way to do this is to use a curtain wall its mullions only and empty system panel..you can either edit profile to generate the cut or u can work with grids segments...Curtain wall mullions can be scheduled and the cw itself can also host windows and door by replacing a panel...

Hey @RDAOU
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at doing the curtain wall way but since this is meant to be pre-fab, the framing is a bit un-uniform so I'm not sure if the curtain wall way would work for this project.
I was hoping I could just input the windows and it would the studs automatically for me. Maybe wishful thinking.
Void form or cut might be my only option
Did you use a Beam System for the studs? If so, and the Beam System still exists, you can edit the Beam System and add a sketch the boundary for the window opening inside the perimeter boundary.
I did not, no. It sounds like I have a few options to work with though.
Thank you for your ideas and input - this is really helpful ![]()

Also, how did you draw this on a verticle rather than horizontal? I see a ref plane but Its not letting me create one vertically and only on plan view.
Create a Work Plane by drawing a Ref. Plane in Plan View and naming it. Then in 3D View (or Elevation/Section View parallel to the RP), set it as the Work Plane to draw on using the Set Work Plane tool.
@barthbradley I was able to get the work plane verticle but when I cut an opening in the sketch, the beams rotate where they meet the window
@Anonymous
Do you mean you want them to be rotated @ the window?

I'm going to give the curtain wall way a try since I will be able to "frame out" the windows with mullions quick and I can schedule. I appreciate your willingness.
They are same principle more or less... to rotate in Curtian walls you also have to unpin and change profile... See GIF in previous reply.
