Window sill

I want my window to show the window sill and stool in plan.  I don't necessarily want to model it rather I'd like to apply it to all my windows as a standard for my plan drawings.  Is it possible to do this within the window family so that when I change window sizes the stool and sill will change with it.

I'm guessing it would be very similar to door swing lines in plan, which I believe are symbolic lines.  I've attached an image of how I would like the window sill and stool to show up in plan.

Yes, that can be accomplished using symbolic lines. Use the following sequence in the window family:

1. Insert reference planes in the locations where you want to have the lines
2. Constrain the reference planes using dimensions (or parameters if you want them to be controlled on a type or instance basis)
3. Draw symbolic lines and align and lock them to the reference planes.

You should then be able to insert the window family into a project and have its plan view match what you describe.

Thank you Matthew, I think I'm on the right track. 

What do you mean by locking the symbolic lines to the reference planes?  As you can see in the image my sill lines are being drawn within the window instead of outside the walls. I've also attached a screenshot of the family editor

In the family editor you must use the align command to be able to constrain the symbolic lines to the reference planes.

1. start the align command
2. select a reference plane to align to
3. select the symbolic line you want to have aligned
4. a lock symbol will appear... click it to lock it

do that for each symbolic line. Also make sure that each of your dimensions that you have for the reference planes is locked at well. Select the dimension and click the lock symbol that appears.

I did exactly those steps but it still didn't keep the symbolic lines in place when I went to my project.  Not sure what I'm missing. Is it possible you could do a screencast of this?
