Why is my revisions sorting by date and not sequence?

Ok. So we are having an issue with our revisions schedule for this project. The revisions schedule is making it dort by date when it should be sorting by sequence and when we have the date as MM-DD-YYYY it sorts it randomly and doesn't keep the order at all as it should, 1,2,3... We have it set by sheet because that's how this project is set up because it's been an ongoing project that has had addition later after the original project was built and such. We have changed it to YYYY-DD-MM to make it work out and that is ok-ish, but we want to know why this does this and if anyone knows a work around to fix this issue. We want it to go just in order as it is set in the Revision Schedule manager thing and just number 1,2,3,4... on whatever page we are on. We don't understand why this go completely out of order like this. Also in the photo I changed only the ones that were on that page to show an example. We changed it to year first to fix it, but would love to change it back and have it work this way.

Hi Eric

The issue is quite simple, actually.

First, you must resolve how you want your dates to be presented and then fix it all.

Later, look carefully at your own capture. Your revisions are sorted in the schedule just as they sorted in the revisions dialog box. You need to use the "Move Up" or "Move Down" buttons under the "Row" group to arrange the correct sorting. When that's done, all you need to do is tick the proper revision checkbox in the sheet.

Hope it helps

I'm not sure if you got my question. 100% completely disregard the dates that are YYYY-DD-MM. We changed it only to have the correct order of 1, 2, 3 and so on for the 'No.' column. We want to be able to have it in order 1 , 2 , 3 by the sequence number and not by the date. I noticed that it is doing it that way and that those are the correct numbers, but we want it to be 1, 2 ,3 and not 6, 4, 1, 8... I guess what you are saying is just that we can't have it that way. 2014 revisions need to come before 2015 and actually show up that way, but we can't show it it unless the year comes first it seems.

Revit date is actually pure text and sorted as text. That's why yyyy/mm/dd works. Real date format has been on my wishlist for years. You have to edit your revision schedule on your sheets and set sorting order to revit sequence. Otherwise you must be consistent with your date representation. My recommendation is to use yyyy/mm/dd or similar that works as text. Hope it helps.

Actually, Eric, what I'm telling you is the issues must be arranged by the
"Move" buttons under "Row", in the right portion of the dialog box. The
date format is the least of my concerns, although it's easier to comprehend
when they're all written the same way.

You may ignore the numbers in the dialog box, because the revision schedule
will renumber the issues according to the sequence in the sheet.

That said, just occurred to me... Have you checked the sorting in the sheet
schedule? (It's a titleblock, right?)

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, and I recall using the buttons to
correct the order, and checking schedule sorting in the titleblock family.
It has something to do with the schedule numbering the revisions,
disregarding the dates, using the row order shown in the revision dialog
box.

Sorry I couldn't help more... 2AM right now in Rio de Janeiro and I'm
answering on the cellphone.

Thank you for the help. We have it sorted by sequence in the title block but it's still doing it by date. We moved it up and down and all around the revision schedule and it still did it as 3,1,2,4 or whatever it was. Even changed it how it sorts the list to every possible way and it was still doing it by date. If anyone out there knows where I can find a video on how to set up revision schedules, it would be great. But as of right now it seems as though it will only sort by date if it is set by sheet and who knows what it does when it is set by project. But I have tried every single method discussed and it only leads to that :-/. But I do greatly appreciate the help

You have helped a lot. Our titleblock is totally corrupt. We switched to 2016 and then this file became all weird. It wasn't acting this way before. Whenever I go into the titleblock to edit it and change the sorting, it reverts back to the way it was with sequence sorting and so it doesn't change at all. I think that's it. Thank you very very much

Hello, the solution is to edit your title block's revision schedule and choose "Sort by: Revision Number".  There is no need to change your date format nor reorder the revisions.  See image attached.  I hope this helps!

The sorting needs to be set to "none" in the schedule and then it will be sorted in the same order as the revision list dialogue in Revit.

If you set it to sort by Revision Number it gets weird when there are revisions without numbers, and it ignores the revision list dialogue order, so I would suggest not doing that.
