Why is my family showing up backward in my project properties 3D viewer?

Hello,

I am having problems with the component viewing in a project. When I load a family into a project it appears back to front in my properties 3D viewer. I have built the family with the front at the front and the back at the back so why is it showing up differently in my project properties 3D view. Can you please tell me how I can make the family/component appear the right way around in my Project Properties 3D view?

The below image shows the family 3D view which shows that the family front is, in fact, the front of the component.

The next image below shows how it appears in the properties display in my project

In the Family template, with the plan View open, “Front” is at the bottom of the screen and “Back” is at the top of the screen. Regardless it is up to us to be consistent.

I definitely agree this needs to change.

@Anonymous  When is this likely to change so that the image shows correctly. Modelling families back to front to suit the image doesn't seem right..

If you are worried about backward compatibility then provide the option in the family editor to display the side of choice and set it backwards by default to suit what is already at place. Or if you are feeling brave set the front as being the default - however you may receive backlash from people who have already created their families based on the old way.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi RSomppi,

Thankyou for your response, unfortunately the solution you have provided is to update the icon thumbnail of the Family file not how the family is displayed in Revit.

the thumbnail has alaways been broken there is no fix it. unless autodesk finally updates this function to actully display things correctly (nested families im looking at you)
