Why group edits creating new group types?

I have 75 apartments in a 7 story building.  I have each unit type grouped for obvious reasons.  For some reason, and it's been bugging me for a while now, is that if I make an edit to some of the unit types, they'll want to "fix groups" and I am forced to "create new group types".  I can then select the new group type right next to the one with the original name, and select 'all instances in model', and switch it right back to the original group.

Super frustrating when every time I make an edit to a unit this happens.  Even if I just go in, and split a wall, or anything, doesn't matter how small, it will ask me to fix groups.

I made sure to have all of my walls "disallow join" where they would meet a party wall, corridor, or the exterior wall, because I know how sometimes sticky walls cause problems.  So if that isn't the issue, what gives?  All the floor to floors are the same for these units.  I have Tried having the walls being unconnected, or to the ceiling level (I have ceiling levels that are hidden in my plot views).

Please help a frustrated guy out?

Check and make sure your furniture, plumbing, kitchen, cabinets are non-hosted. If they are hosted on wall, floor, roof, and ceiling outside of group; then the group will break. Also never placed in room boundary lines or any linebase family inside a group. Revit will always want to exclude them or place them outside of the group.

I'll add one more...never introduce a new element to the Product while inside Group Edit Mode.  If you want to add an element to a Group, place it in the Project first, then edit Group and ADD it.

thank you for all the great tips, I did not know about many of these.  I'll report back if I find the culprit

I think it was my wall hosted shower (attached).  I thought because the wall I hosted it on was an interior wall not touching anything else it would be okay, but it seems like it could be the issue.  Too bad because this is a super low geometry basic family I made custom 😞  I kindof liked it.  Too bad I don't think there's a way to switch a wall hosted family to a non-hosted family.

Strange though.  This family is in other unit types and it doesn't cause issues.  Once removed from an offending unit type though, it no longer has the issue...head scratcher
