I have never had this issue with any other program of Revit, but after I started working with a new firm and started using their Revit, callouts, elevations, sections, etc. will not show up in plan or in the current view, unless I place the view that is being referenced onto a sheet. Why is that?

In the past, if I placed a callout that wasn't assigned to a specific sheet, the bubble or annotation would just be empty. But it would still appear into the view and I could click on it as a link to open the view.

Is this a new setting of Revit? Is there a way I can edit my company's Revit settings so we don't have to worry about this? It's causing confusion for our less experienced designers.

Look at the view filters.  My guess is that they have a visibility filer to not display any callouts that are not on a sheet.

Hello apjones, could you please elaborate? I do not see that option to change this in my Visibilities Graphics or my View Filters. This also occurs on sheets without filters.

I cannot show you any specific screen shots because we do not do this, but some organizations all users to add filters that would would turn off the visibility of any section cuts that do not have an active reference.  Sections may also have the visibility restricted based on the scale (Hide at scales courser than.... )

Look at your view graphics for the view or the currently applied template to to view and see if there are filters applied.  If there are, does the name reflect what they are affecting?  If there is one that looks like it may be hiding your sections, deactivate it (see example below) as see if they appear.  Note that "Enabled" means the filter is active.  Un-check it to deactivate it.

If that is not it, select one of the "invisible" sections and see if the "Hide at scales courser than" is set to a reasonable value.

If these two do not help, you may need to start looking here...

When printing or exporting there is an option at the bottom "Hide unreferenced view tags". uncheck that box and you will see all callouts no matter if they are placed on sheets or not.

Usually this is checked on so that you don't have to worry about callouts you may have made just to get a better angle on something when modelling (working views) showing up when printing.

Answers are kinda shots in the dark here without more detail. Mike and jones responses could both be correct.

When you say they are not showing, do you mean natively in Revit, or when you export to PDF?
