I don't understand why you are confined to one view when modeling in Revit. Slows down workflow tremendously

Are you?

EDIT: I realize that sounds rude. While starting an extrusion in floor plan view, I'm able to open a 3D view just fine while remaining in the Model-In-Place editing environment. What issues are you running into?

When you start the In-Place instance, you can swap between views as you wish. Once you pick what to create (ie: extrusion/sweep/Blend...etc) your choices are

  • either the view where the active work plain is visible
  • or the 3D

It wouldn’t make sense to use a floor plan to place the path of a vertical sweep along the edge of a wall you need an elevation or section view for that. Likewise, when placing the profile for that sweep, you would need a floor plan, not an elevation or section.

In the same way, it’s pointless to use a section view to define the boundaries of an extrusion on a horizontal work plane. How would it speed up the workflow if you cant see the length and width of what you are trying to extrude?

Revit helps with this by prompting you with a list of all compatible views for each action. For beginners, that’s a real time saver. For experts, it’s simply a matter of knowing which view to use so they do not need to cycle through all views.
