Why can I not change the material of newal posts in a railing?

I have created a new family (newelcolor) and assigned material parameters to the post.

I cannot get the posts materials to show properly in the model. What can I do for the post materials 

to show correctly?

View Phase Filter = Show Complete?  

Assign Project Materials to those Family Parameters inside the Project.  That is, find the Newel in the Project Browser, right-click on it and select "Type Properties" from the drop-down.  That will open the Type Properties dialog box for the Newel and there you can assign Project Materials to those two Material Parameters.  

...can you post a screenshot of your entire Baluster Pattern dialog box for the Railing?   My thinking is that you may have overlapping Newels there.  Any Newels assigned under "Posts"?
