Which could be better? Revit or Civil 3D?

Good afternoon:

In my work we have to carry out a series of interventions on tank foundations. We plan to switch to 3D for civil works (currently we already use Plant 3D). The idea is to make a point cloud of everything that currently exists in the plant and based on that, make a 3D model and see what actions to take.

Has anyone done something similar in Revit? Would it be better in Civil 3D?

I've never done a series of interventions on tank foundations.  What's involved? Knowing this would help us to advise you.  BTW: This is an Architectural Forum. Personally, I use both Revit and Civil 3D...among others.

It depends on your client scope and deliverability. Is your client planning to add more work on the site (IE: building tank or maintenance building or road works)? Also think about the model you have to share downstream.

The interventions consist of the reaconditiong of an existing concrete basin (around 5000 m2). This is why mi client is concerned about the diference in elevations between current and future runoff and foundations. It is possble that there will be modifications in the existing drainage system and new tanks could be added in the future.

Attached screenshot with an idea of what the client wants, modeled with Autocad 3D. The idea is to replicate this but with a modern software like point-cloud, and revit or Civil 3D.

I would go with Civil 3d since it has Creating a Watershed and Water Drop Analysis

All I am seeing in that screenshot is views of phased construction; each filtered to show previous and existing conditions in a certain way . Revit would be far superior in this scenario.

...I'll add that you can insert Civil 3D, as well as Point Clouds into Revit. Additionally, not to throw a "monkey into your wrench" here, but I also see an application for Recap Pro here since you mentioned Point Clouds. Still, all will handshake well with Revit.

Currently we have created a toposolid from a .csv or .dwg file with the curves ando points that the topographer has provided us.

From there we are designing the foundation.

The idea is to be able to obtain measurements and 3D models (that we can use in future projects).

We currently work with Autocad Plant 3D for pipes and equipment and for civil works, we model solids and make drawings in Autocad 2D. This is why we are interested in trying Revit and Civil 3D.

We also use Navisworks just to visualize and for the the pointcloud, actually we subcontract the realization of a .rcp file that we use for modeling and check interferences.

Attach a couple of screenshots of a previus project that we are testing with (sorry for the quality, its our first project with Revit)
