What is the purpose of this?

When a Generic Annotation is nested into another Generic Annotation, I see this Label parameter, which is not visible when the family is placed into a Project.

What is this for? Can it be put to some practical use?

That is to create a Family Type parameter, aka a Type Selector.

When you nest/load several Gen Annotations into one, you can place one nested family and assign a Label/Parameter to it. Can act like a family selector...Now when u load into project you can see the labels (more or less) see attached family and project

I have used that sometimes for legends with symbols and the general symbols and remarks sheet
