What is the purpose of Enable Filter?

R21 touts ENABLE FILTER as a new feature, but still requires you to load each filter to a VIEW TEMPLATE.  What is the purpose of this without allowing you to load a filter to all view templates as once?  I can only see how this would be a benefit if you don't have FILTERS checked in your VIEW TEMPLATE.

Exactly how is this different from not loading the filter to the view in the first place?  Provide real world example, please.

I cannot see how Enable filter should be related to the ability to add a filter to all view templates

The purpose of it is to allow users to have 1 view template with multiple Filter where user can disable or enable or  certain filters without having to create a new template just for the sake of a filter...IMO, the idea is to have ALL FILTERS in ONE View Template and not add Filter to all view template

To add a filter to multiple or all view template we use a simple Dynamo graph ... What you are asking for may be an IDEA which you post on the Revit IDEAS forum...

EDIT: you wanted an example -

A floor plan split into 5 areas where filters are used to highlight the elements of the 5 work stages (not phases)

  • Option A: create a new template for each work stage and each template with the required filters
  • Option B: Have 1 Template for all 5 views with the ability to Enable or Disable a filter where and when convenient <--- that's the purpose of it

View templates aside, the basic functionality of the Enable Filter parameter in the Filters section of visibility graphics is to be able to disable the effect of a filter without loosing the overrides you've entered.

This is explained in the Help Video at time mark 1m47: Video: View Filters: Enable in View

The difference between disabling a filter and removing it is also addressed in the video above.

Hope this helps,

Like I said, it would make sense only if you could add a filter to multiple views as once. I suppose you could add all your filters to all view types in your template and toggle them off. It just seems to be a weak feature with no meat.
