If the error occurs when you first open the file, then the issue is that an element within a linked file was previously dimensioned but can no longer be dimensioned because the link has been removed or the element within the linked file has been deleted. In these cases there's nothing you can do but accept the deletion option or close the file. I think there's nothing to 'show' at this point, because the referenced element, upon which the dimension is dependent, no longer exists, and the dimension cannot exist if the element doesn't exist. I suppose Autodesk could create a 'un-hosted' dimension, but that sounds like it would cause more harm them good.
If the error occurs because you are modifying or deleting something else, you may want to consider using SmartDelete, which will tell you about the 'dependent' elements and help you zoom to them, before you make a deletion, or change.
