What am I doing wrong here? - Calculated formula - 'Inconsistent Units' error message

Hello all,

Problem:

I've googled the 'Inconsistent Error' message I'm getting. To be honest, I'm not sure I understand what 'balancing the units' means or how its properly done. I've been trialing an error with various formulas but to no avail so far.

What I'm trying to achieve :

I'm trying to work out how many lengths of something I need that comes in standard lengths. There are several lengths I'll need that are bespoke to the project and will have to be cut down on site from the standard length.

Eg, A standard length might come in 1000mm. I have 3 x pieces, 1 at 220mm, 1 at 300mm and 1 at 415mm say = 935mm. So, I could buy just 1 x 1000m standard length for all 3.

My idea for scheduling this was to have two shared params; one called Nominal Length (which is the standard length) and then one instance param called Length. I then want to schedule out all the parts with the same Nominal Length of 1000mm say, and include the Length param in the schedule too. If I minus the Length from the Nominal Length I should be able to know how much of a standard length can be used for other bespoke lengths.

Hopefully that makes a little sense.

Does, anyone know how to input the formula correctly ?

Thanks

If TEST is Number parameter then use formula: (Nominal L -L) / 1

If TEST is Length parameter then use formula: Nominal L - L

It's all about units, as far as I can tell.  Have you tried neutralizing the "L" in the formula?  That is neutralize them both.
