Walls dissappearing in pdf print (vector processing)

Hey
I have an issue with walls dissappearing in prints. When the width of this Generic Model Line family is wider than the wall - the wall dissappears in the print.

 

I find the printing to PDF functionality really wonky in Revit and it feels like it is due to an update a long time ago. It is strange to me that I see things in Revit one way and the PDF sees things in a different way. This is a huge loss in quality assurance and it feels like I cant trust this software to print exactly what I model.

 

Why isnt Sheet view = PDF output? What in the vector processing makes things dissappear and lose visibility like this?

I know these 3 "workarounds" so please don't suggest them. A workaround is not a solution.

 

  • We must use Vector Processing, using Raster Processing is NOT an alternative because of quality, measurements, texts, tracing etc.
  • Switching to Model Display: Wireframe solves this issue but it makes transparent filled regions opaque and comes with other issues such as families displaying incorrectly.
  • Exporting to AutoCAD and print from there is not an alternative due to the time it consumes - besides this should never be suggested as a solution since we leave the Revit environment.

 

Please just fix issues like this. If anybody has a solution I haven't tried I'm more than welcome to try it.

what the heck ... here is one last test for you with various Offset from Host 1200/1300/1500/2000

Here is a better test for you...using the same .rvt you uploaded and as per your settings 1300mm offset from host & 1200mm the cut plane

 

I believe this should Wrap things up?

Yep, looks like it. Will have to figure out what is causing this on our machines regarding Windows and pdf drivers. Thanks for your help 😊

Mate!!...that was not a solution to be marked as one!!. That was only another attempt to show you that the issue is not Revit related. It is more of a reiteration or a demo to what @L.Maas  tried to explain to you in Message 2 at the very first beginning. 

 

 

If I try the same using cutepdf or bluebeam I would end up with the same issue you are having. (Most probably I would end up with the same issue if I upgrade PDF Creator)...PDF printing output is driven by the PDF print drivers as well as the Operating System. That being said, one windows update can mess the current setup which I currently have.

"It appears that you are not here for a solution for the non existing issue of the original post 😆"

So I figured your files was the solution but I guess it isn't if it is Windows/driver related. Will close this now and hopefully I never run across this issue again

Indeed!! Your solution, if you are seeking one, is elsewhere and has nothing to do with PDF printing. You will definitely run into this problem again...Use the proper family category in this case "Line Based Detail Item" a 2D family to display 2D detail/Symbolic lines and you should neither have any issues with the print nor would you need to worry about Offsets from Host

 

 

PS: I am still not sure which Industry Standard dictates that you must use a 3D family (Line Based Generic Model) to display 2D item (Fire rating symbolic lines)!!

Fair enough, this way of doing things is standard here in Sweden which I know sound stupid but I try to follow that procedure and hope for the best. The construction industry is complex here unfortunately, which is why the architects has been disconnected from fire engineering and acoustics for example. The 2D line is for plan views and sheets and the 3D is for clash detection. For example, clash between ventilation and fire compartment = fire seal. Contractors and MEP find this information very valuable for calculating and for their QC.

 

Anyway I would like to thank you for all your help, I'm sorry I get so rialed up. It is nothing towards anybody, I just want to solve the issue and print my sheets with nested line based detail items in a generic model. 😊
