Wall Niche

I am looking for guidance on how to create a wall niche:

I have created two walls. The first one (inner core wall) is a double 2x6 wall with nothing else attached to it. Then I drew the 2nd wall layer (tile layer) over it. The tile layer consists of underlayment, thinset and the tile. Now I need to cut wall niches of different sizes into these walls. The wall niches will be the depth of the 2nd 2x6 wall and need to be clad with tile on the inside also. How do I best go about this? Screenshots below.

- Option 1: Use a face or wall based void family to cut the wall.  Paint the surfaces with tile material.

- Option 2: Create an opening in the wall.  Create a thinner wall type with proper layers and fit it in the opening.  Join the walls for a seamless look.

So I think I'm making some progress here. In order for this to work I have changed my wall assemblies. Rather than drawing the tile wall separate ( I could not get it to wrap to the inside this way) I have created a wall with one-sided tile. I am then inserting a wall opening. Once the wrapping properties of that wall assembly are set correctly, I get a proper wall opening with the tile wrapping the sides, top and bottom. I still have an issue cladding the back properly. I can paint it with the material - my problem with that solution is the paint does not show up with a thickness of the material, hence I get incorrect plans and sections. If I try to apply only the tile wall to the back of that niche, my wraps disappear and I have no idea why. Any idea what's going wrong here?

I have attached a screencast showing my steps.

Thx,

Marc

Try this file.  There are some glitches but you may try to tweak it a bit more.
