Wall Mounted Handrail Setting

I have problems to get the wall mounted handrail right in the model, the support doesn't look right in the model, it is partially in the wall. I  set the clearance between the handrail and the wall  1 1/2" by changing the railing properties: offset from path, change it from original 1" (the stringer width is 2") to -1 3/4" the handrail has diameter of 1 1/2". The distance between the center of the handrail and the wall is 1 1/2"  + (1 1/2")/2 = 2 1/4".  I used a support family which set the distance from the center of the handrail to the wall as 3", it named this distance as hand clearance, so I went ahead to change this distance to 2 1/4" and save the family. However, when I uploaded this family into the project, the support hand clearance was still set as 3", and the supports were partially in the wall. I don't know why the changes in the family didn't change the hand clearance from 3" to 2 1/4" in the project.

Offset from path is the distance between the centerline of the Railing and the Magenta path. Since you have no rails except for the handrail, then Offset from path = the distance of the back of your support/surface of the wall to the path.

I still have issues with this handrail and support. As you can see from the screenshot, when the handrail's hand clearance is set 1 1/2", the model only has 1/2" clearance, the interesting thing is measurement from the support plate bottom to the handrail is 1 1/2"; and the support is buried in wall;  the stringer is 2" wide and the offset from path is set -2", everything seems right. According to your screenshots, when you set the hand clearance for the handrail no matter what distance, you will get that distance in the model.  Is something wrong with the handrail? I can't copy from your file because the system prompted the project already has handrail and will overwrite the copied one. Also, I would like to know what is the relationship between the handrail and the magenta path?

I realized, in my situation, the offset from path is supposed to set -1",  half of the stringer width,  in stead of  the full stringer width 2", then problem is solved.  I need to really understand what  " offset from path" means, what is the relationship between the path and handrail etc.

Can you edit the railing and show where the magenta path is?

Why do you set Baluster offset to -1"? It should be 0.

I didn't change Baluster offset  unless it is the same as the offset from path?  I don't quite understand all those components'  relationships.  I duplicated the existing handrail to make a wall mounted handrail, I guess that  Baluster offset setting = -1"  came from the old one, so can you explain what this setting is for? Thank you!

So if your railing has balusters, the centerline of the balusters will be offset by 1" from the magenta line.  It is normally set to half of the stringer width so that the railing will be dead on the center of the stringer since the magenta line is on the face of the stringer.

In your case, use the settings in my screenshot.

This is happening because you are having -1" offset for the baluster => the remainder to close out the gap of the 2" stringer is -1'

When you are using Wall Mounted you should set the baluster offset to 0 (as @ToanDN  mentioned above) otherwise Revit will keep calculating it even if the balusters have been set to NONE

This is a regular railing installed on  the stringer. The glass panel is under railing structure (no continuous), I used Top rail, none for Baluster,  Baluster offset is set 0. (I haven't added handrail yet).  I don't know what wrong I did, I have to set the offset from path  1" for one side of the railing and -1" for the other side in order  for the railings to be centered on the stringer, can you understand what happened? Thanks!Left Rail.JPGRight Rail.JPG

I think you can answer the question yourself by edit the railing and see where the path is (hint: it is not on the center of the stringer).
