Wall layer and material legends - information for builder

Hi everyone, 

regarding this Revit Idea about tags in legends, how do you usually in your country provide information about wall/floor/roof/ceilings layers in project documentation for builder? 

For example, we make legends like these: 

where there is wall type and materials for layers, wall tag and total thickness. 

But due to Revit's inability to tag legend elements, we make these in a sepetere Phase (which is a frustrating workaround) 

I am from Europe, do things get done differently in USA ? 

There are no ability to make a schedule with wall/floor/ceiling/roof layers and thicknesses also. 

Basically it seems to me that there are no Revit native way of providing this information to builders and as Revit is developed in USA, I am thinking that maybe it is not important or done differently.

Funny that in Autodesk own examples they do use legends as we, but probably write dumb Text note to tag walls.

Have you considered Parts and MTO Schedule?  There you have Thickness.

Select the Wall in the Model View and press the Create Parts button.  It's explained in that link I provided.  

...How can I assign part layers to walltype?  Not sure what you mean here.  Do you mean change the Part Material?  Make it different from the Material used in the Wall Type Assembly?

@barthbradley I know how to make and schedule parts 🙂 but if I cannot assign or get the wall type mark information to parts, I cannot show that in schedule.. Yes there are 'original Wall type' name, but it's a name not Type mark which are shown in plan.

No, you're right. You can't pull Part Parameter Fields into a Wall Label/Tag, but you can show BOTH Parts and Original in the same view.  So, what about 2 Tags?  One to report Wall info and the other to report Part info?  

Or, what about putting the Wall Type Mark into one of the in-built Part Parameter Fields, such as Comments?

Two tags won't solve Part schedule issue.
If I put Type Mark in Part's Comment parameter- it is as anti-BIM as writing it in plain text note next to legend element, meaning I have to recheck that parameter every time I change real wall type mark.
How do you provide such information in your projects? Wall/floor/ceiling layer information

It's "semi manual", you have to enter layers and thicknesses in type properties, but then that's it. You just pull the information in every view where you need it.

As for examples you listed from Autodesk, aren't those keynotes? But they won't get you the thickness either.

Not really sure what you're asking. Yes, we do bother with materials and patterns, and we do have material takeoffs. This is just for notating on sections, that's how it's done in my country, we have to list the layers in some way. Here is what it looks like in sections, with overly simplified translations for layers:

Exactly, if you change something in wall type assembly, you have to change it in that wall type properties as well. Upside, it's type based so it changes in all tags.

Yeah, similar to how we do it, we place walls in separate Phase before Existing.

So the layers' materials and thicknesses are typed in or from the actual components?

Material thickness is typed in Material Description param. along with nam, let's say Block, FIBO - 200mm. Material is put in wall layer as supposed and then we tag material and pull Material Description parameter.

The thickness and material of each layer are from the actual component in my screenshot.  Nothing is manually typed in.

You can do that by using Parts tag with Thickness and Material Labels.

🙂 looks great, and you show Both (Part + original) in view that way getting the wall tag! Great! 
But how do you go about MTO schedules?  If you count let's say Birck, Common with different thicknesses?

Create two materials "Brick thickness=1", "Brick thickness=2". Assign each where you need it. Create takeoff, sort by material name.
