Wall Hatches SHowing Through Objects

Having an issue with objects (ex. Marker Boards, Toilet Fixtures, etc...) placed on a cmu wall, showing the cmu hatch through them in my interior elevation view?  The families are ok and in my 3D views it shows it correct but when I do an interior elevation or section the cmu hatch shows through my objects.  See attached screenshot of my issue.

It is likely the 3D extrusion of the board family is set to Invisible for Elevations.  Turn it back on.  Alternately, you can add a masking region on the elevation of the family to present the board but IMHO it is unnecessary.

I thought of that but my visibility settings for that family are all checked like you show it.  It also happens to my plumbing fixtures, accessories, etc...

...or it could be that your object isn't sitting on the face of the wall. Perhaps the "origin" is recessed a bit. Check the family to verify that all the geometry sits on top of the origin work plane.

Check View's Visibility/Graphics Override and see if these categories are set to transparent.

Post one family file here if you like us to look at.

Tried that too and I even pulled it away from the wall and I still have the problem.

There has to be a setting that I have on my view or file that doesn't work?

Yep the family seems fine. So the issue is with the Project's View settings. Did you check the categories transparency as I mentioned? Do you have any filters assigned to the elevation views or view template?

Yes I looked at the material categories and made sure the transparency was 0 and I even changed the surface pattern to solid and made it white. I have been looking at the filters in my view settings but no luck.

...other factors: materials... VG Override...loose nut behind the keyboard (kidding)...still, I betcha the object isn't actually sitting on the wall face; it's recessed a bit.

Not material categories.  I meant the component categories:

I meant materials. Check your "Surface Material: Markerboard". Transparent? Check in Graphics Display Option too. If your family is fine at my end, it must be a rogue setting in your project.

Accepted solution

I have done all those things, but wait...I think I got a solution.  When I went to Visibility Graphics and unchecked the Imported Categories tab it worked!!!!  The thing is that all those imported categories are dwg files????

that makes no sense to me. C'mon, tell us the truth. It WAS a loose nut behind the keyboard, right?

...further: that's not a Solution! LOL. That's a coincidence.

Maybe it was a coincidence....lol.  All I know is that I can proceed with my project cause it worked!  Don't ask me why, maybe the dwg files don't work well with the rvt file?

Here is something that might explain the issue from someone else in my office...

Just a fun fact…

So now it makes since why the .dwg files linked in to the Revit model were causing those problems for those views. It appears to be just the Civil Siteplan.dwg causing the issues.

My brother is a Civil Engineer and I remember him saying a lot of Civil firms use Auto CAD Civil 3d for all their CAD files. If you open up their CAD file and pan around you will notice that lines are drawn at different heights and elevations. The survey from what I remember tries to capture height of survey points and they base drawings off the survey.

I wasn’t aware that a civil.dwg was loaded, but typically I avoid linking Civil files for that reason. Those files throw the Revit linework out of whack. Otherwise, you have to open their CAD file and adjust the heights of everything.

Hope that helps shed some light on the issue.

Thanks all for your responses!
