Wall beneath stair

Hi,

I am trying to draw a wall benath a stair running in line with the stair stringer. I've got the wall drawn and attached to the underside of the stringer. This all looks okay in section/elevation, however in plan the wall beneath the stringer should extend to the stair cut line. It show a gap between the wall and stair cut line. I think that this will be the area of wall below the cut plane.

I've attached an image of the issue, any suggestions would be most appreciated

You might need to use a Plan Region around the wall/stringer, to adjust the View Range for the Plan Region only, so the wall shows how you need it.

I just tried that but it the edfge of the wall moves but so does the stair cut line....I want the cut line of the stair to end at the wall...

I think the Stair Cut Line is created with a "system family" annotation; and I don't think you can controol where it is placed--I think it's related to the

View Range, which by default has a Cut Plane at 4'-0" A.F.F., which is an industry standard for floor plan views.

Try experimenting with a Plan Region and change the View Range. It does move the cut line of the stair.

Another thing is that walls in Revit that are shorter than a certain height ( can't remember which height) do not display "cut".

Not sure if that is affecting you in this example. There is a way to "trick" it somehow to show cut pattern.

Hi Cliff,

I used a double cut line to approximate how it would look if you had just drawn it from scratch, however it looks rubbish.... I'm a fairly new Revit user, I'm finding that the software is fairly limited in terms of fine control of aspects like this. Personally I would'nt put a drawing that had issues like this out of my office.... Time to export another Revit project to ACAD to get it to look okay methinks......

Did you actually try a Plan Region and adjust it? If so, what were the results?

I tried it as a test and was able to get the cut line to move by adjusting the View Range of the Plan Region, which was placed directly over the stairs.

I know it's easy to get frustrated with Revit coming from Cad. But remember you are MODELING, not DRAWING LINES.

It takes time, and sometimes you have to make a few very minor compromises--but concentrate on all the benefits that Revit gives you instead.

But I feel your pain. Just keep trying and a few years from now you will never dream of going back to Cad. Spoken from experience--I began hand drawing

over 25 yrs ago, then went to 2D cad, then 3D Object based cad, then Revit. I can tell you for sure--Revit far exceeds any of those tools. You just need to

learn how to use it to your advantage.

That was the result of the plan region/adding double cut...

I'm a 20+ year CAD/3DS max user, my clients like slick plans, I feel Revit is in its infancy and currently can't delvier the quality of plan I'm after. I do aggree its got its good points, scheduling & coordination being one. I also this its set up for how drawings are done in the states which is very different from here in Scotland....
