Void on/off in family

Hello

I want to make an "on/off" void in a family.

In a project i want to switch off (and on) this void.

How can I make this in a family ?

(the visible on/off switch doesn't work with voids in a family)

Luuk (family beginner ;-))

I am in need of more information:

What is your void going to cut? Walls, floors, roofs?

Is It really a family that you need? Can't you do with a shaft, wall opening or something like that?

You may want to create a generic model family hosted in a wall/roof/floor according to your needs, but I'm afraid you cannot simply switch it on/off.

Hello

Thanks for the answer...

I make een practise family. I started with a generic model family and then I make an extrusion block

In that block I want to make a hole (void) that I can turn off and on

How can I make that hole with a on/off switch ?

There isn't really a yes or no visiblity for voids, as far as I have seen, unless something has changed recently. What I have done to handle this is what I show in this image:

Supposed the blue rectangle is a solid and the red rectangle with yellow fill is a void. You can make that void "disappear" from the solid if the distance "d" is such that the void is outside the solid. To make the void have an effect again in the solid, you increase "d" again. Got it?

Hello Alfredo,

Thank you for the answer...!

Yes this is a solution. But maybe there is a better way to do this..??

I like to have a checkmark so I can switch off and on the void

I try to make a nested family which is a void. This nested family can me switch of with the visibility checkmark.

But :-(....it doesn't work...there is no hole in my extrusion..

No, what @Alfredo_Medina has proposed is normally how I would solve it.

It is also something I have posted HERE on the Revit Ideas section of this site. Maybe if it gets enough support it will be implemented in one of the next Revit versions,

Louis

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

I don't think there is another way, as of today. there are many things we would like to have, but ... As Louis and I have said in this thread, this is a way to solve this problem, unless one day Revit provides this feature. 🙂

You can create a check box "switch" to control the depth of the Void.
