Viewport Title without scale

I work in the MEP Electrical discipline and do my one-line diagrams in a drafting view. When I place the drafting view on a sheet the title has a scale shown. I made a new family type for the title line without the scale label and just text that says 'No Scale'. Wen I change to it via properties palette it changes ever title on all sheets to the 'No Scale' version. How can I make this work on just my one-line? A masking region on sheets would also be nice.

Be sure you name your new View Title family a different name that the previous before loading back in.

Then create a new viewport type using that new view title family.

Personally, I use one view title and have visibility options (yes/no) on certain labels and create types within the View Title Family.  I name them accordingly for the purpose, such as Floor Plans, Elevations, Drafting Views, etc.  Then I create the Viewport Types with the same names as the View Title types.

Using this method you can also have different sizes of titles in one family.

The title sheets I use are all 1 family with everything nested in and parametrized ... I do neither like nor encourage multiple families when not really needed.

When you edit the title block family: Do not delete the existing scale lable... leave it be and

  1. Select it and on the properties palette >> visibility >>> assign an instance family parameter to it (Auto Scale On Off)
  2. Add another label
    • In the new lable dialoge add a new parameter "Shared Parameter" "Instance" "Text" (Manual Scale Text)
    • Add the lable on top of the existing one
    • Select/reselect it and assign to its visibility an instance family parameter to it (Manual Scale On Off)
    • In the Family types dialog set formula to parameter (Manual Scale On Off)=    if (Auto Scale On Off), 2<1, 2>1)
  3. Save and reload the title block into the project and overwrite the existing
  4. In the project environment ..Go to  the Manage tab >> Settings>>Project Parameter
  5. Add the shared parameter (Manual Scale Text) you created above to the Sheets category

Now you should be able to use both and switch in between using the visibility (Similar to what @Anonymous stated that he does in his project's TB...I think)

A couple of comments:

1) The question was about the View Title, not about the Titleblock. Therefore, I think the solution is to have 2 types in the default view title, one type showing the scale label, and another type not showing it, as explained by @Anonymous above:

2) When a parameter needs to be the opposite value of another, the formula does not need to include those true and false statements at the end (2>1, 2<1). It could be simplified like this:

  1. True I did misread the body and the "switching on properties palette" where instance parameters are usually listed took my thoughts somewhere else..It is View Title and I see that OP meant Type Properties instead...so no way around types yet I would still keep the two labels therein and use the if statements
  2. Is this your recommendation or your preference? If the former no thanks I would use conditional statements regardless if the latter then I guess it is ur choice!

PS: watching your conversation on the other thread forced me to retreat...I just hope you ain't picking on me too!

I don't understand the comment in the PS of your post. Now proposing a different way to make a formula is picking on somebody?

"IF" it is irrelevant to the topic and is addressed in an assertive way rather than a personal opinion/preference; One can only hope? Or "NOT"

Another conditional statement (no pun intended just a coincidence)

I would have loved to continue the pleasant chitchat but I can't : o) don't wanna miss the happy hour

Cheers

I tried having two different view titles but if I changed the title on say the electrical legend it changed all view titles on all sheets (Doing this via the >edit type button in the properties box) even though they were named differently. Electrical legends, fire alarm device legends, one-line diagrams definitely do not need a scale showing. I tried doing one with instance parameter on the visibility but that turned off all viewport titles on all sheets. Kind of at a loss. Guess I should add this to the Revit 2018 wishlist.

If different Viewport Types reference the same View Title Family Type then they will show the same on your sheets.  You need to make sure you have different View Title Family Types.
