View specific instance parameter?

Dear All,

I would like to ask advanced users what is the best practice to achieve view specific instance visibility parameter, e.g. to display some parts of imported component only in a specific set of views?

So far I was using design option overrides for view templates but this strategy gets to be very annoying when it comes to updating those elements in project environment since the update needs to take place in every design option separately.

Any other ideas how to achieve this?

What are imported components? Do you mean CAD imported in families?

We use Object Style Subcategories for this. Frankly, I don't know any other way to do it.   

Assign family components to  Subcategories and those Subcategories' Visibility and Graphic properties can be set anyway you like in different Project Views.

By imported component I mean family elements in the project. E.g Door family element that has nested detail item family inside. For some views the detail item in the door family would be off, for some on.

Would this work with subcategory?

Use Nested Shared Families and Subcategories for greater control by Project View.

Thanks for the response, but I dont think it will work with Detail Items.

First, it cannot be shared when embedded into 3d family, and secondly you cannot assign subcategory to turn off filled regions.

Any other suggestions?

Use subcategories for the nested detail items and control them via VG>Detail items, not Doors. Another option is using detail levels: coarse, medium, fine.

Nest the fill into a model family, make it shared and nest that family into another.
