Upper floor plan that I want to see things that are below the floor level without seeing things that are under the floor?

Just not understanding what the difference between bottom of primary range and view depth as nothing is getting me this solution.
I have no Underlay

If you open the preview you will see that image which highlights each zone of the view range

View Depth is what determines if specific Categories show as (Beyond)....ie: Beyond the Primary Range Bottom

Here is a lengthy post on Revit View range dating back to 2016 Solved: View Range in Revit - Autodesk Community - Revit Products

If I set either to below the floor level, I see items under the floor, which I do not want. I want to see items that are in open space below the level of that floor like my sketch represents.

You do not need to change the view range for the entire floor plan...

  1. Leave the general View Range of the view as it is (0 offset from the associated level - ie: above the deck of space 3)
  2. From the Ribbon >> View >> Create Plan View
  3. Add  a Plan region for the open / double height space
  4. On the properties palette adjust the view range for that plan region (ie: lower the Bottom Primary to the level below)

Don't you have a floor/roof above Space 3?

If you have a floor/roof above Space 3 then you can simply set the view range cut plane as shown in your sketch, view range bottom at the bottom of the yellow color, and the floor/roof above Space 3 should cover what under it without any extra work.

An error: View depth plane is set above the bottom clip plane when doing this.

View Depth must be farther or at least equal to View range Bottom.

Correct, so using the view range without a plan region, I am unable to see anything below the floor level.

You need to lower both View Range Bottom and View Depth to the bottom of the yellow color (lower floor).

See GIF below ...

  1. you need to attach the walls of the level below to the Floor (OR give them an negative Top Offset)
  2. You only need to re-set the View Depth (Primary Range Bottom can remain @ the associated level)

There are instances/projects where Walls top constraint is required at the top of the slab ie: cannot be attached to floor (in such case a separate floor element for floor finishes is used and which will obscure the walls from level below)

As long as the walls are obscured by an element (ex: floor or ceiling) which the attach in the above GIF did, they will not be visible... See image below: Low partitions below 2nd Level floor slab vs those in the DH space
