Variable structure wall

Hello,

I am reaching out to get some input on the modeling strategy for making a variable-structure wall.

My wall assembly has two layers of gyp-board which do not span the entire height of the wall, because the structure utilizes balloon framing. So, I have gyp that begins at the floor level and ends at the ceiling level. I have shown the intention in this screenshot:

Is there a way for me to specify that the outer layers begin and end at a certain height?

Thank you for the assistance.

- You can unlock the layer at top and bottom and enter the the top and bottom extension value for the walls in the model

- Or you can use Stacked wall with 3 stacks.

- You can also draw the floor and ceiling boundary precisely to overlap the finish layer, then attach top of the wall to the ceiling and bottom to the floor.  The core will remain full height and the finish will be capped by the floor and ceiling.

Before attach top/base:

You can do it that way by unlocking layers and controlling extension, but that'll become a mess.  I would just create a separate wall type for those layers and place them independently of the underlaying wall type.

FWIW: Here's something you are up against if you incorporate those layers into one wall type and extend them via Base and Top Extension.  That's why I said it can get messy.  There are other issues as well.

...another approach would be to go to Section View, select Wall and create Parts, select the GWB Layer(s), check "Show Shape Handles", and drag the ends to where they should be.
