Variable Roof Thickness on a Sloping Roof

Is there a way to get the cricket thickness on a roof with an overall slope like 1/4" / foot to be variable and keep the metal deck layer flat with the sloping steel? When I set the roof elevations using modify sub elements, and then have the insulation variable, the roof system goes flat to the level it's associated with and therefore below the sloping roof structure. Is that correct?

I use two roofs, one for the primary portion that follows the structure and another for the cricket material varying portion. Join geometry afterward in a section view should blend the two layers materials together...mileage varies.

I spoke too soon. I have a metal deck layer at 1/4" per foot and and insulation layer on top. When I set the insulation roof to be variable it makes the bottom go flat to the level the roof is on. I can't join the two. I'm missing something.

You can use a sloped void to cut the bottom of the cricket roof.  Or, make smaller roofs for the crickets instead of one big roof so that they do not poke through the main roof.

My response assumed one sloped roof with uniform sizes for structure and insulation that follows the slope of the structure and second roof (smaller like suggested by Toan) that is just the cricket insulation material (thickness TBD) so you can manipulate the top surface with shape editing. The bottom could be flat and overlap the other roof or the cricket could be sloping too and the shape editing can cause the two roofs to overlap so Join Geometry can make it appear to be "one" roof.

 

You could post a mock up of your exact conditions to dissect.
