I attached a video of the issue. I want the editable only check box to stay checked until I click it off.

@matthew.ross.hdrinc , this may be a bug. Are you able to file a problem report through your Autodesk Account? Also, what version of Revit are you using?

This issue was most annoying in previous versions but might have been fixed in Revit 2025.

I just tried to emulate it with a "quick test" and could not replicate the same issue?

I can't test this in 2025 since I don't have projects with work-sharing in that version. I tested this as not working in 2024. My build data is: 24.2.10.64 20240408_1515(x64) 2024.2.1. I can submit a bug report.

I made this post initially, but they all thought it was working as intended: Pressing escape key clears "Editable Only" checkbox - Autodesk Community

Ok... I have been using it since 1999

Just for the sake of general knowledge and information, maybe @kimberly_fuhrman-jones  can also validate this with the dev team.

The functionality of this feature has been reversed since Revit version 8 or 8.1, meaning in 2005, shortly after Autodesk purchased it. Before that, it was always checked/true until manually unchecked by the user. This change was made due to numerous user complaints. Personally, I can totally understand how it could be convenient for some users, but for the majority of users, namely BIM coordinators and managers,  work across multiple disciplines. Having this option default to "Editable Only" would be a nightmare.

Add to that the fact that it is a contextual option. Meaning it is only available when the Project is workshared with worksets loaded/open. Hence, there are users who have not even heard about it or affected by it

I’m not saying you shouldn’t get what you’re wishing for; I’m only clarifying that it’s not a bug. That said, you really need to post this request on the Ideas Forum.

I’m 100% sure the dev team wouldn’t find it too hard to implement this option in a way similar to "Select by Face" or "Select Pinned Element," where users can choose to keep it always on or always off. Below is the link to the Ideas Forum.

It seems that this should be a persistent application setting instead of selected by model. Maybe it could be selected by model, but I don't know if the model stores persistent user settings. Even if I had to select it once per model open, it would be an improvement. This post started as an Idea then  kimberly_fuhrman-jones moved it to the support forum.

I dont know it depends on how long one has been using Revit. Regular users who lived through the different phases of Revit's development tend to remember annoying options

Programatically speaking I do not see why it could not or should not be implimented somewhat similar to these selection filters/options where one checks unchecks as desired.

18 years, but I'm not sure that matters? Our teams are looking into this issue.

Technically it doesn’t matter. I meant to say that whoever used Revit sometime between versions 4.5 and 8 remembers how annoying it was when its default state was reversed 🙂

Good to know your team is looking into it though.

Alex Ross sent me the below response: "Doing some research on this subject and playing around with a Revit file it appears that this is by design as the checkbox will automatically check off after escaping or changing your selection.  It appears this tool is intended to be used in a case by case selection and will not stay checked until you uncheck it again.  If you think that this behavior should be changed or you have suggestions on how to improve it, the best way to get this in front of the Development team for Revit is to create an IdeaStation."

dont want to say I told you so 🙂 but the link to the Ideas forum is in my previous reply. And if you do submit one, post the link to it back in this discussion for those who are also interested would find it easily and vote it up...Might be worth it -

Change "Select Editable" OFF state to be triggers manually by users instead of Escape
