Using a Generic model to cut another generic model

I have 2 generic models in project. I have manage in the past to use one GM to cut another GM. I currently am in a situation where I need to doo it again, but it doesn't seem to want to work. I have tried cutting and joining. I need GM1 to cut GM2. By joining GM2 to GM1 it cuts GM1. I have tried joining GM1 to GM2 (other way round) but get error message can't cut joined element.

Disclaimer: I cannot upload the model due to confidentiality

Any suggestions, query's or comments welcome

You can always cut the generic models to clipboard and paste into an empty model ie: place them out of context...that shouldn't breach you confidentiality agreement

Typically in the family, I would check on cut with void when loaded.

I would copy the solid and paste it on top. Then change the solid to void

For the solid object, you would set a parameter to hide the solid

When you load into your project, you can take the generic model with another generic and cut thru it. Hide the solid object and it will appear as cut.

@syman2000

You can cut one solid generic family with another solid generic family without a void and [Cut with void when loaded] box needs not be checked.
