Users have different worksets turned on/off on the same template

Hi all,

I've ran into a mind-boggling issue with view templates/issues. We are in a work-sharing model and have about 4-6 users on this model daily. For some reason, my colleagues and I mostly have different worksets turned on/off for the same view templates. We have about 25-30 worksets in our project and all but about 5 of them are turned on for me. For one of my coworkers, only 1 workset is turned on. For another coworker, the worksets are set as how we want to show them. All for the same view template.

This completely blows my mind as view templates are supposed to regulate graphics of views for the project. Meanwhile everyone's worksets are different from eachother for the same view template. Any suggestions would help as I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this.

Never seen this happen before. Make sure all worksets are open for all users.

On a side note. There are better options than using worksets for visibility.

Because of the situation happening in the world, most of us work from home with not the best connection to the internet/servers at work so it has been suggested to only open the worksets we need to see at the moment. As for me, I open all the worksets all the time. But choosing to have some worksets off or on shouldn't change view templates for specific users.

I think you may be confused between worksets being closed and worksets being turned off.

How are they turning off/on the worksets? Is the view template actually controlling the visibility of the worksets? Is everyone working in the same central model live?

Toan: No I'm not confused, we close worksets before opening the model to allow for a better workflow. Meanwhile there are certain worksets turned off or on in certain view templates. The issue comes up that the same view templates have different worksets turned on or off.

Rob: They close certain worksets by specifying which worksets to open/close when opening their local copy of the central model. Yes the worksets override is included in the view template. Nobody is working directly in the central model. Everyone creates a local copy of the central model and synchronizes with the central model. But yes, we have about 4-6 people working in the same model at one time.

Yeah, I meant local files created from the central.

Can you post screen shots of these different workset settings for the same view template?

Check if Worksets are included in the template and/or if they're controlled in the view through Visibility Graphics. If it's set visible or invisible in all views through worksets it can be overridden in VG.

Yes the worksets have been included in the view templates. I believe it was because of the "visible in all views" in worksets manager, they were all checked for some reason. It doesn't explain why the view templates were different though. I didn't have enough time to gather screenshots of the different view templates and had to adjust my worksets accordingly due to deadlines, but i believe it's all fixed now. Thank you all for your help and input!

I don't think so. Let me preface this by saying that I never use worksets for visibility but I think in order for view templates to be able to control visibility, the worksets need to be visible. If you don't have them all visible, you might be overcomplicating your workflow.

No, it just defines the global preset for all views in a project but can still be overwritten in VG for the view or by view template. So in example, if the workset is set not to show in all views the preset will be "Use Global Setting (Not Visible)". Turning it off can be usefull if you're adding a link for example which ought to be visible only in a set of views and not throughout the entire project in your existing sheets. The latter might be true though.
