upgrading project from 2020 to 2035

I was using 2020 and autodesk just stopped it.  I upgraded to Revit 2025, thinking that these types of software with their upgrades, will upgrade a project to a current version.  When I looked for previous projects in 2020, Revit 2035 didn't see any.  Since 2025 is new, and I'm new to it, is there a function that I'm missing?   or Revit 2025 just doesn't upgrade previous versions?

Are you from the future, Marty McFly?  2035?  he, he.

In all seriousness, you most definitely can upgrade previous version projects. All's you have to do is open the rvt in Revit.  It will upgrade it automatically.

I opened Revit 2025 and went to an external drive to open a 2020 version project and there was nothing in the file.  When I change back to the original smaller internal card, there everything was.Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that 2025 can open both 2020 RVT files okay, but only the RVT on the internal card has any content?

Revit 2025, using the ‘open’ option, went to a file with 2020 project on external drive.  There was nothing that the file for 2025 to open. When I changed back to the internal card, the files show up.
I original card didn’t have enough space for the Revit 2025, so I replaced it with a 2TB card.

Try running Revit as Administrator.    Also, open the File with Audit checked.  That's if you can get that far.

...it is possible the file is corrupted.

Would it being unable to open .rvt due to created in a partitioned: an OS 10 (Mojave) with MS Windows 10 using Revit 2020 and a new 2.0TB OWC Aura Pro X2 (due not enough internal storage): using Monterey  with using MS Windows 11 through Parallel and Revit 2025, could either the systems and/or the ‘cloud’ affecting not being able to see the original .rvt?
