Universal Column Section Shape

Hi All,

I am trying to change the shape of the UC to a rectangle.  In the Type properties the section shape is greyed out.

When I try to edit the family, I can select a different shape however the selected shape doesn't carry through to the family model.

I assume there is a step I am missing, can anyone educate me on what I am missing?

Thank you

Hi @chrispooley0

the "Section Shape" parameter which you are referring to is primarily used for classification, filtering and scheduling, not for controlling the actual 3D geometry of the column. There are some analysis software and BIM coordination tools that also use this parameter to understand/analyse how the column is intended to behave structurally, even if/when the actual geometry is user-defined or modelled freely.

To change the shape of the 3D modelled geometry you would need to either edit the extrusion/sweep and change the sketch lines or delete the existing and remodel it in the shape you wish.

Thank you @RDAOU

It is kind of nice learning that I was not missing anything there, I just need to model it up 🙂

Thanks again.
