Unhide elements from linked Revit file

Hello everybody,

does anyone know how to solve this? we needed to hide some elements from a linked file and did it as autodesk recommends in their website: "Individual elements in linked models can be hidden in the host project as shown below. To select an element in a linked model, roll your cursor over the element and press <Tab> until only that element highlights. Then, right-click and select Hide in View > Elements. You can do this in plans, sections, elevations, and 3D views."

That works perfectly. However, i just wanted to temporarily hide this elements and then eventually unhide - that seems to be impossible... (?) Thanks!!

Hi there,

There are multiple ways to do this, i will explain 1 which i use quite often

1) If a template is applied to the view, edit the template, Go to revit links, then select custom, go to your link,

It will be 'BY HOST VIEW' by default make it custom, and go to the model category to hide whatever you want or the workset to hide whatever you want.

p.s as you said you want this to be temporary, then better to 'ACTIVATE TEMPORARY VIEW' and open visibility graphics ('vv' or 'vg' is the shortcut key) and repeat the entire process, custom and hide so on and so forth, later you can exit the temporary view and everything will be as it was before.

If you Reveal Hidden Elements

It will show you the hidden elements in the linked file

You can TAB through to select the element and right click unhide in view

Your Welcome.

At first if you are hiding in the 'TEMPORARY VIEW PROPERTIES' mode and disable the same, then it will come back to its original state.

But if u have hidden the 'ELEMENT' in the view either by 'EH' or as u said by selecting the element and right click and hide element, then you need to activate 'REVEAL HIDDEN ELEMENTS' and manually unhide the elements one by one which is a pain in the ass.

My suggestion: Work in Temporary view from the starting and hide whatever is required from 'vv' and exit the temporary view once you are done and voila the hidden elements which you hide in Temporary view will come back.

I had tried that already, it unfortunately doesnt work for linked models: Hidden elements stay hidden even after you turn the temporary view properties off. It is indeed anoying to do it indivually but it's enough for what we need now. Thanks anyway!

I know this is an old post. But I was finding a better way to unhide all the element in linked file instead of unhide the element from reveal hidden element mode. What I just did is remove the linked file and relink the file and every element that we have hide manually will just shown as it is a fresh start.

Thanks for this. This post is the real answer to the question the original poster was asking

i didnt find this solution to be true.  my hidden elements in my linked file did not show up using the "light bulb".  I ended up having to recreate the view.

Turns out i had a custom "filter" on my view to hide the category of element that was not visible.  so dont forget to check your filters too! also "linked" files' view settings.
