Unable to unhide element (elements option is grayed out)

After clicking the light bolt button at the bottom of the screen, I'm unable to unhide this element "ramp" after right clicking on it.

"element"  is grayed out, why?  "by filter" is the only option available but there's no filter setup in the file.

Everything is checked in the view template.  See attached.

By select similar elements in view and unhide the entire category.

@diesellam: It's grayed out because it's already hidden. You have Reveal Hidden Elements turned on.

If you cannot Unhide them by Elements and by Category then they are hidden by View Filters.

May you be picking an element that belong to something else? Like elements in a group, lines in a DWG or a mullion in a Curtain Wall.

I'm guessing that, after two years, you resolved this issue.  However, I had the same problem just today (04/09/2020), and here's what the issue turned out to be:  imported categories.  Since no one else on this thread touched on this, I wanted to point out another item to check

I had a couple of elevations where some appliances (range hoods, dishwashers, refrigerators) were not showing.  In the 3D view, however, they appeared as they were supposed to.  After trying various things like VG, making sure that items were assigned to the correct workset, I opened the family file.  What I found was that the family was not constructed from Revit solids, but from an imported 3D CAD symbol.  Since I hadn't considered this possibility, I didn't look at the Imported Categories tab in VG.  When I returned to the model, sure enough, imports were turned off in those views.  Turning them back on resolved the issue.

Again, I don't expect this to help the original poster; however, when I googled this problem, this thread was at the top of the list.  So I'm hoping that anyone else who ventures here finds this helpful.

The elements (sub)category is hidden in visilibility graphics (in/outside of your view template) for the view. [shortcut vv/vg or through template --> model category overrides - check Ramps category], or otherwise it could be a view filter

You could have just turned on Imports in Families instead of everything in the Imported categories.  That would do.

Yes, in most cases, simply checking the "Imports in Families" box would resolve the issue. However, what I failed to clarify in my original post was that, as in the screenshot below, the global "Show imported categories in this view" (item 1 below) had been unchecked by a previous user.  This, of course, turned off all imports in this view, despite, as shown in item 2 below, their individual boxes being checked.

So yes, you're right, in most cases your solution would be the simplest method, as it's been my experience that most users control imported objects simply by checking/unchecking the boxes of the individual elements.  But, in my case, because the global control was used, I first had to turn everything on globally, then turn of specific items individually.

Hi!

I know it's ages ago, but i came across this issue today, and wanted to chip in my solution.
In my case, elements from imported Revit files were missing.
Like yourself, elements were highlighted in "reveal hidden elements" view. I tried many times to hide&unhide, both elements as well as category without any avail.

Lastly i opened hosted file that we got from another company, and created a copy of a layout and removed the view template. When importing file back in, i selected my view under "linked views" at the VG settings.


So basically, it was hidden on their side, not in my file.

Absolutely, yes! By linked view is too restrictive. I need to have control over my views. Relinquishing that control to others is detrimental to my projects. I cannot rely on consultants to give me views the way that I need them to look. There's no way that I'm calling an architect asking them to turn stuff off or move annotation because it doesn't look good in my views and definitely not asking them to create additional views for use in my model.

But in my case using "By host view" the elements are gone. So i have to use by linked view, and select the layout (view) that i created in that hosted file. (and my host view has all elements checked, model categories and annotation categories)

(might be some stupid tick-mark or something in my layout options. idk, i just now that now it works)
