Unable to save as it's read only or opened by another user

Downloaded Revit 2017 onto my new laptop, first time I go to use it and save a file it can't write it as it's apparently read only or opened by another user (which I don't see how it can be!).

Thanks in advance

Are you on a workshared file? If so

1 - bring up the error message

2 - make a note of the username

3 - close out of Revit

4 - reopen Revit

5 - click R>>Options

6 - change the username over to the name from the error message

7 - open the file and relinquish

8 - click R>>Options again

9- change back to your own username

10 - you should be out of this cycle.

If you are not on a workshared file, then I would recommend one of two things -

1 - restart your machine

2 - Saveas your file under a different name

Helllo @Anonymous

If you are working alone in the File.

Upon opening the file tick on the Detach from central and Audit then the other window will pop-up showing the two option called "Detach and preserve worksets" and "Detach and discard worksets" and choose the "detach and preserve worksets". Once the file was successfully opened you may now "save as" the file and make it as a central model.

If you are working with the others (workshared file)

Follow the steps mention above by @Sahay_R

Hope this helps
