Once you pick a plane, Revit asks you to go to view which is parallel to that plane so that you can draw the extrusion profile. This is normal. Just pick a plane where the profile will be hosted and then go to any of the suggested views which are parallel to that plane. Draw the profile, click on the green check mark and set the extrusion height using the properties pallet or by dragging the shape handles.

It shows you that window AFTER you pick a plane.... You already picked it

Open floor plan view, then pick a plane which is parallel to the elevation view. Window will pop up and you will be able to choose the elevation view.

You should be able to pick a face of any element such as a wall parallel to the elevation as the workplane t9 draw the extrusion, or pick a parallel grid line or named reference plane from the name list. If you don't have one of them, then go to a floor plan to create a reference plane and name it.

Your answer is as unhelpful as a the Dialog Box. I need to draw the extrusion on the south elevation, and all the views listed ARE NOT THE SOUTH VIEW. Where the hell am I going to draw the extrusion???

Nevermind, I realized that I was selecting the wrong plane and that's why it wanted to switch views.
