I am getting this error massage even though the component i am trying to insert is from the sybology 2d folder - human figure plan view.

Its file type is also Revit Family. Anyone knows the problem?

Hello @Anonymous

The preview of the family on the Properties Palette appears to be 3D. You might want to open the family in the Family editor and double check. Or go to 3D view and try loading/inserting there. (The name of the family or folder it is in are not really significant)

This prompt message is not limited to 2D vs 3D families it can also pops up when you envoke a command then try to load wrong family into it. Example:

  1. You start Window then try to Load a Door.
  2. You start one reinforcement command and try to load shape of another.

Alternatively; upload the family here. Personally I cannot just speculate reasons based on an image.

@RDAOU

This is the 2D component that I was trying to insert(file attached). The strange thing is, even when I use the Load family option, it does not appear.

As suggested before.

  1. Open the Family in the Family Editor
  2. Load into the project
  3. Place it on the view
  4. Esc x2 to exit command

The error not related to the family itself but to the fact it is being loaded in the wrong place or in the wrong command envoked prior to the Load Family. Maybe you forgot to Escx2 or Click Modify to exit the command

Thanks @RDAOU   Its weird though, I cant seem to insert the family from within the file itself, but have to open it externally and load it for it to work.

thanks for your help!

Nothing is wrong with the family it loads also from within the project...It's modeled using Detail Item family template; hence, you need to Esc x2 to terminate any command then load it clean from the insert tab...

In the photo above you already had a command envoked/running in the background and you were trying to load something which does not comply with the envoked/running command.

Look at the image ... You have Modify|Insert Component active; ie: you were trying to insert a component for a specific category (I cannot know which from the image) then you tried to load the 2D Man into that component's category...Revit Prompts you saying this 2D Man is not loadable for that specific category component!

Hi Guys!

Sometimes I still get the problem of the 2d element that has been inserted not appearing under the components tab. An effective work.around would be to go to the families tab on the project browser to find the family that has been added. And then drag in the elements from there.

Cheers
