Unable to link Revit File at the correct Co-Ordinates

Hi all,

I have modeled some underground services in Civil 3D and then exported it to an IFC file to be read in Revit. I opened the IFC file from Revit and then saved the file as a new Revit file. I checked the Co-ordinates of the new Revit file i created from IFC and everything was spot on. So far so good. 

However here is my problem, when i try and link the newly created Revit file into another Revit file it wont come in at the correct place, I've tried bringing it in by shared co-ordinates as the co-ordinates for both files are the same. I have also tried origin to origin and that hasn't worked.

Whats really confusing is that both files share the same co-ordinates and my Revit file i have created from the IFC is all in the correct place - therefore i should be able to link it in by shared co-ordinates and it should come in at the correct place in my other Revit file, but it doesn't?

Also before i exported my Civil 3D file to IFC i made sure i was in World UCS first.

Has anyone ever experienced this or knows how to get it to come in at the correct place?

When you load your IFC based Revit model into a new model they don't share their survey coordinate systems yet. Revit assumes a Project Coordinate System relationship between Revit files initially. The Acquire and Publish Coordinates tools establish the shared relationship.

As such, you can move the IFC source model to the desire position and rotation and then use Acquire Coordinates to define its Shared relationship to the IFC based source model, assuming that's the one with the correct coordinates defined.

Alternatively, if you're using the latest versions of Revit you can also move each model's Project Base Point (unclipped) to mark a common location in each of your models. Then you can link them using Positioning Option: Project Base Point to Project Base Point.

This makes sense as to why i can't bring the file straight in at the correct co-ordinates.

I shall give this a go and hopefully it works!
