Unable to Create Local File - Network !

Hello all,

My co-worker has created a Central file, but I cannot create a local file from it.

We are pretty sure that the problem is the mapping in the server. 

My co-worker has a mapped drive letter directly to the Projects folder and I have the full UNC path.

The IT told me that they cannot do anything for this problem so I would like to know if someone had faced the same issue and have a solution to propose.

We previously had a similar problem.  From what I remember, the paths need to be the same, which IT had to correct.  Is this a new problem?  Different computer?  If it worked before then something has probably changed.

Yes it is a different computer and the network drive is attached differently. 

Did you have try any temporary solution before have the same paths?

The network paths have to match. 

Is there a reason why IT says that they cannot make the computers have the same path?  The other user should definitely be able to use the same UNC path as you.

Back to this issue, until now it is not possible my collegues and me to have the same mapping to the server. 

Do you know if the BIM360 could be a solution? Is it possible to save the central model there?

If you change your work sharing to cloud based you should't have the problem.  That problem occurs for server based Central files where users have a different mapping to the Central.

yes.. bim 360 (we are using it for most of our projects and the good news client pay for it or lead consultant) is reliable but you need to pay for the subscription or you can check dropbox is much cheaper. thanks

have you check all user's in the projects are the same build of revit?

Please don't recommend Dropbox as viable for Revit projects when worksharing is involved. It will not work for a real project and real collection of users. It is not designed to contend with element borrowing and you might get lucky and think it works for a little while but as soon as a second user gets involved one of you won't be able to sync and that gets very old very fast. Dropbox is great for sharing simple files that only one user can edit at a time. It is not a worksharing solution unless you like misery and misfortune.

Get better IT support. Mapping a resource is pretty basic. The central file path is defined by the user who creates it. All others must be mapped to that resource the same way. If you examine how their computer is mapped you can create a drive mapped the same way yourself...assuming IT has not disabled that.

For example, their pc is mapped to the P: drive using \\192.168.##.##\Projects\10000 and yours is mapped to the P: drive using \\ServerName\Projects\10000. You can map another drive letter to \\192.168.##.##\Projects\1000 and Revit won't mind the different drive letter because the UNC named resource is identical.
