tweaking a mullion profile on a curtain wall

I'm trying to get the hang of this creating a mullion profile to illustrate different types of exterior cladding for renders. After creating this metal clad mullion profile and adding it to a curtain wall, it's not trimming around the door opening cleanly and the end is not complete, (left side). I did an edit profile on the curtain wall to cut out the door opening, Seems like there has to be an easier way. But it didn't work anyway.

Make the cladding as ribs with Mullions - not Panels...

Thanks Syman2000. For some reason I haven't figured out yet, I have not been able to download from Revitcity for a few years. Used to do it all the time. But something about my most current pc just won't let it happen.

But, for the record though, I would like to have a look at your panels if there is an alternate way to get it. But I would really like to know how to create mullions with different profiles that will cut out correctly.

Or, better yet, a better method for getting what I'm after.

BarthBradley made a suggestion in a previous post that I might want to try pbr materials. Looking into that also.

Since I am a general Contractor who spends most of my time out in the field, I would be understating to say that my cad skills are a little unpolished.

Do you know how to create a Mullion Profile Family?  

Do you know how to use the Mullion Profile Family to create a Mullion Type in the Project?  

If so, then you can create a Curtain Wall Type like I'm showing above.

@Anonymous I was confused on how the ribs would apply to the wall reversing the direction of every other one? I don't much care for this curtain wall mullion process though but if that's the best way than so be it. I wish I could create the metal panel profile and add it to the wall structure by adding it as a layer. Then I assume all window and door openings would cut correctly.

BTW: how are you creating openings?  Using the Wall Opening tool?

I tried creating a wall opening but that didn't work, So I did an edit profile on the curtain wall and cut out the door. that didn't work well either.

I still don't know how you create the ribs and have them reverse direction every other one when you use that mullion profile on the curtain wall. Other than doing it like I did and create the whole panel as a profile.

The profile you drew there should work for mullion.  The red I added is what you will get in your curtain wall.

By the way, you need to question yourself why you need to model corrugated panels, especially when you are a field guy and not a desk-bound 3D modeling nerd.  It is best to use a material with a corrugated texture and a model surface pattern.  Period.

The profile I drew DID work except that I'm having issues getting it to cover the entire wall and cut out at window and door openings. (See the attached image in my original post)

I do a fair amount of plan design/drafting for some clients and I would like to be able to hand off a good rendering for their approval. I'm not exclusively a field guy. Less and less actually as the years pass.

If you want opening, you can edit the curtainwall profile and sketch the opening.

That is because you have to go with multiples of 1'-0".  If you need opening that is not a multiple of 1'-0", instead of edit profile the curtain wall, use a solid mass (not void, please), to manually trim off mullion at the opening.

I tried that. It didn't work. The panels overlapped into the door opening. Then I unchecked "adjust for mullion size" and I got the messed up image you see in the original attachment. Funky discolored panel section on the left of the door and a missing section at the end of the wall.

Share that profile family here and I can show you how.  By the way, if the goal is to show a pretty rendering to your clients then using proper corrugated materials work best.  The drawback of using modeling the actual corrugated panels in 3D far out weights the little benefit gimmick from it.

Well @ToanDN, for what it's worth, I respect your opinion. In fact I'm currently working on how to create some cool PBR materials but I'm having a whole set of other issues. I created a Stylized Metal panel material and I'm trying to apply it to a wall  using the paint tool and nothing's happening. Here's that other metal cladding profile family though.

See attached so you can compare the holes created by editing profile versus cut by a mass.

If the mullion will not work for your case, you may want to take the line base family approach and use void cut family to achieve the effect you wanted. If you want to create slope, you simply have to rotate the rectangle void cut to give you that roof slope profile. It is very flexible and able to achieve the effect you are looking for. See attached.

Sadly I don't have 2024 at the moment and can't use your profile.

As a followup, can anyone tell me why, when I create a void extrusion and put it into my corrugated curtain wall, I am unable to select the curtain wall to use cut geometry. I can select the wall behind it. But not the curtain wall. Trying to do a mass cut to get the door opening cut into the metal cladding.
