turn off wall joins

I am new to revit and I just started work with a modular building company. I need to be able to make walls that do not join automatically.
In the shop they build the walls flat on tables and will apply wall panels or gypboard to one side. Where walls join at corners the wall covering will project through the wall. I need to be able to wrap the sheetrock on some locations and not others and I do not want the stud components to join at all.

How would I be able to achieve this in Revit?

My objective is to be able to create shop drawings and framing plans for every wall section and have accurate dimensions for each wall section for the people building them in the factory. The way things are done now is we draw the floor plans normally letting the walls join as they do but then someone else draws the wall elevations manually with autocad. I want to be able to draw my walls in revit and have them already broken down into the different wall pieces.

The attached image is demonstrates what I want to be able to achieve.

OK, I figured out how to disallow wall joins and that helps a lot. Now I figure I need different wall types for the different wrap conditions or is there a way to override the wrap where I need to?

I am also wondering if there is a way to have the walls shown normally with studs joined in one view and have them separated in another view? We usually do a typical architectural plan then we do a separate wall layout plan to indicate the different wall sections to be built.

Thanks

It sounds like you already know you can make new and unique wall types using the edit family function. As for your other question about having your cake and eating too... (i'm not a revit expert, but) as far as I know there is no way to join and unjoin between views. The walls are either joined or they aren't. Someone else may be able to offer you a more certain opinion on this, but I do have a suggestion that may help.

Two options:

1. After your architectural floor plans and modeling are complete and you are ready for shop drawing, you could just make a copy of the original plan and call it Plan x shop drawings. You would then be able to modify your wall joins and types without messing up the arch plan.

2. Make use of phasing. Create your original model in "Existing" and after you complete your plan as above, just copy all elements of the model in place and change all the copied elements to "new construction" (and the original elements to demoed for New construction). That way you can modify all your walls and create shop drawing views as New Construction. Good luck.

PS, if you use option 2, create your new and existing views in advance, and don't forget to move all your copied elements 100' left or right, as you copy them, so that they don't interfer with the original elements. Once you've changed the "phase" of the copied elements, just move them back 100'. And you will have two exact copies of the file existing in two different time frames and views.

Can you tell me how is this done? Disallow join for all the walls from the beginning so that I don't have to select them individually/using wall joins.

Thanks,

Scar

You can set it when you start draw walls.

Wow..... Is this a new feature in 2017?? I am using Revit2016. This is cool. So we might not have to keep doing that every time. Once you check the box, all walls will be drawn that way?

Thanks,

Scar

2016 has it.  I am pretty certain it has always been there like forever.

You may need to update your 2016 to the latest Service Pack, whatever it is.

Not sure why but my version of 2016 isn't showing the disallow join option on the tool bar when placing walls either. However, I found that if I select the wall(after placement) and right click on the node there's a "Disallow Join" in that menu. Then a Little "T" shape appears next to the node to toggle it back if you need to.
