Trying to view a section in an inherited revit model

We recieved a model from the structural engineers

When i try to make a section through one of the plan views it tells me:

None of the created elements are visible in Structural Plan: XXX. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings.

And when I go into the VG, It wont let me change anything because its on a view template

When I try to change the view template, It says:

Can't obtain permission to edit the element: The Central Model is inaccessible. You can check out worksets at risk, but consider carefully!

To be honest it doesnt matter if I mess up the worksets.. this is just a copy of the model and will not affect anything if I go messing around with it

Can anyone advise

thanks

Open the model and choose detach from central then you have unrestricted access to it.

@AidanHawkins ,

close the opened file, and in Revit got to open Project then navigate to the folder where your received file resides and then select it, at this step check the box "Detach from Central" before you go ahead with clicking Open.

For the future, maybe you can suggest your Structural Guys on using e-transmit  the next time:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2022/ENU/Revit-D...

There are many options there, maybe you might want to slowly dig in there to know more about e-transmit.

You can run the eTransmit at your end too, for Etransmit you need to close any open Revit Project sessions and navigate to Add-Ins:

Hope this helps you a little further.

Another best work practice is to open only the required worksets and not the whole model. This might be particularly helpful in opening large Revit Project Files.

This can be done by choosing Specify in the Open Dropdown button:

Give it a try next time. Cheers, K
