I've been wrestling with railings and trying to use them for something they're not intended to be used for. It's working pretty well with one exception. I'm running into a problem that seems simple, but Revit doesn't allow me to do it.
In summary, I want a single rail to end 6" before the end of the rail and negatively offset the space of the post to put the endcap onto it.
I'm currently constructing them using rails for the sheet, retainer, and cover and then capping them off with endcaps as start/end posts. The mounting hardware is a detail item that's evenly spaced as a baluster. I attached my Revit file and the image below has much more information then what I was able to write here. Any help would be awesome here! I was thinking I could potentially use the handrail option in railings, but that doesn't have the horizontal offset I need, just lateral.
Thanks in advance!
Can't you get there with a Wall Sweep?

...for horizontals like the ones in your RVT that is.
it's a little more complicated then that. Since it's a railing family, I have to create the sheet element in the endcap family that is for the start and end post. My issue was with how the reference planes were interacting with the baluster post dialog box. Essentially there's only two reference planes, Base and Top, that are modifiable by the baluster dialog box. I assigned the wall sheet extrusion to another reference plane and I'll have the user change the sheet elevation by a parameter within the endcap family. Complicated, even to explain, but I got it now after messing around for a few hours... Here's an example of one of the end products
