Trouble with formulas and parameters.

I am trying to run a formula in the Model parameter. The problem I am running into is I am trying to base it off a length that is changeable meaning that I need length to be an Instance parameter however, I cannot change the Model parameter to be an instance parameter. So I keep getting the error "Instance Parameters can't be used in Type Parameter formulas". Is there a way I can change the Model parameter to instance? or is there another way I could possible do this?

"Model 2" Shared Parameter? Instance Type, of course.

That was the conclusion I was able to come to. The problem is without creating model 2 for all the families in our library that we use and filling in the information the schedule will not pull them correctly.

Well, isn't it really a "GRNM" Model? And the number destination an additional identifier like a Part Number?   If so, add a Shared parameter named something like "Part Number" and make it an Instance type.

The model is the whole thing, for foodservice it would be, Hatco unit Model #GRNM-## (the number can range between 18-72), standing for a heat lamp ##" long which. So we are trying to use the schedule revit comes with that already pulls the parameter Model to change based on the length provided as we constantly change the length to match the needs of our area. So if at all possible we would like to keep it to the Model parameter so it shows on the schedule properly. The way our schedule looks is posted as an attachment.

Any new Shared Parameter that you add to the family will show up as an available Parameter Field in the Schedule. Additionally, depending on which version you have, there is a concatenate Parameter that you could use to combine "Model" with "Part Number", or whatever you name it.  

The other thing you could do is just create TYPES in the family, each with a fixed length.  I suppose you've already considered that approach.
