I've done those treads with Balusters .

If possbile I would use details to show design intent and create thread details to show actual shape of the thread

If I really need to model I might create the stair with standard close threads for the first part of the design and then use in place or loadable families to create the threads when the design gets to the final stages.

The closed threads you could hide with visibility graphics overrides, like so

As @barthbradley  mentions baluster might be another option

In quite many cases we create (in the final stages) the whole stair as loadable family as the stair tools usually is not refined enough to get to the exact dimensions.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

You need to create a baluster family the shape of your tread and set your railing style to use that baluster for each tread, on top of turning off the actual treads and risers of the stair.

In theory it sounds like a great solution but in a actual project you will have a hard time unless all of your stairs have the same width and the same winding radius.  If not, you will have to create a baluster family for every variation.

If you only have one stair configuration in the project, or you create the stair as a prototype then you can use this approach.

If you go with @L.Maas approach, I would create the tread as an adaptive with 4 points so you can snap it to the 4 corners of each tread and landing in project, regardless of shape and size.

Thank you for your solution however it is not exactly replicable for newbies without some clues being provided, such as a step-by-step process (or at least a starting point)
